Californian Lina Rennell's Spring 2009 collection is called "Big Sur Meets Helsinki." Big Sur, a magical place where ocean dramatically collides with forested cliffs is translated into hand-printed textiles reminiscent of Finland's Marimekko. We're thinking of the line as Mociun West.

After several months of work, today we are launching the Jargol Designer Index. This is a guide to some of the most progressive, talented names and labels in fashion today. Just go to http://www.jargol.com/designers and you'll see an alphabetical list of designers. Click on any designer to get a concise bio, links to other great resources and of course a curated selection of YouTube videos featuring the designer's work. There are about 80 designers in the index, but we intend to double or triple it in the months to come. We're hoping to make the Jargol Designer Index a fundamental fashion resource and would love any suggestions or comments you might have.

Before Totokaelo came Totokaelo.com the online shop and before that came Impulse the more casually minded sister store. The history of its rise runs parallel with the rise of a more fashion friendly Seattle. Now, in the gallery like space built out using reclaimed and salvaged materials the journey nears completion. On the long racks of clothing are represented several world-class avant-garde designers that are impossible to find in other Seattle boutiques. But name dropping is not Totokaelo's game. Each collection carried is boiled down to essential looks that are distinctive without looking overdone; that can worn to the point of being worn out. Neutral tones and subtly stylish silhouettes abound.

Capturing the spirit of Gareth Pugh's surreal presentations and turning them into wearable, rack ready pieces seems an almost intractable problem. But his team is showing themselves capable of doing it, because with every season we see more of Pugh's looks being translated to retail. Seven has a the latest from his Fall 2008 collection and the funny thing is they probably don't even rank in the top 3 most audacious lines currently at Seven (see their Bernhard Willhelm or Romain Kremer looks for example). Which isn't to say they aren't kind of awesome, because they are.
