There would be no New York Fashion Week without Diane von Furstenberg...[Photo via Coutorture]
Shoes that grabbed my attention today at New York Fashion Week were these zebra-print beauties from the Matthew Williamson autumn/winter 2009-10 show...Soup & Fish has a dual purpose. One is to promote and advance Austrian design. The other is to give people access to high-end fashion design at affordable prices. On both initiatives, the shop is doing a superlative job.
The shop's virtual shelves are kept stocked with pieces from nearly every Austrian designer doing significant work today, with some Belgian and other European designers thrown in for good measure. But rather than offer their latest designs at typically high prices, the shop serves as a saleable archive of sorts, offering dozens of pieces from season past, as far as 10 years back. Each item is available in one or a handful of sizes and is marked with the season it came from. More than just a glimpse back to designers' earlier years, the collection speaks to the timelessness of good design. Almost any one of these items could be mistaken for work from a current season.

After a long winter of turtlenecks and sweaters, and a long overdue trip to the cleaners to get my dress shirts washed and pressed, the temperature climbed into comfortable tie-wearing weather today (between 30 and 60 degrees F). Time to tackle that huge backlog of unworn neckties! Or one of them, at least. Today's tie is from Tachi Taylor, if the dodgily-applied label is to be believed, and features a woven Miro-inspired pattern.
I won't fool myself into thinking spring is here at last despite today's lovely 50+ degrees; this is upstate New York, so we will almost certainly get more snow before spring truly arrives (and probably late at that). But that doesn't mean that I can't pretend for a day and wear a vintage polyester tie of pastel honeycombs filled with "crayon vomit!"
The rack of vintage clothing at well-curated Anica has always been one of those little secrets that true San Francisco fashion folks know about. Well, the secret's out. The shop is taking its vintage selection online or all to enjoy. A few more favorites below.
